Imagine Jesus isn’t just someone you admire, but the very foundation of your existence? In this message from Michael Stephens, explore a promise that runs through Scripture: the Seed who would defeat the serpent, the Lamb God would offer, the Branch that would grow from the stump, and the covenant Lord who would become the sacrifice. Isaiah declared, “Here am I. Send me.” But Jesus arrived as the great I AM, sent by the Father, to accomplish what we could never achieve on our own. The real question isn’t just what you know about Jesus. It’s about your personal relationship: Who do you declare He is?
He claimed the divine name

John 8:58
“Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.’”
John 8:24
“Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
He claimed oneness with the Father
John 10:30
“I and My Father are one.”
John 14:9
“Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, “Show us the Father”?’”
John 5:17–18
“But Jesus answered them, ‘My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.’ Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.”
He said He is the Messiah / Christ / Son of God
John 4:25–26
“The woman said to Him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming’ (who is called Christ). ‘When He comes, He will tell us all things.’
Jesus said to her, ‘I who speak to you am He.’”
Mark 14:61–62
“But He kept silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, ‘Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?’
Jesus said, ‘I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.’”
Luke 22:70
“Then they all said, ‘Are You then the Son of God?’ So He said to them, ‘You rightly say that I am.’”
Matthew 16:15–17
“He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter answered and said, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.’”
He used the “I am” pictures of His work
John 6:35
“And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.’”
John 8:12
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’”
John 10:11
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”
John 11:25–26
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?’”
John 14:6
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”
John 15:1
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.” He said He is King, and the coming Son of Man
John 18:36–37
“Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.’ Pilate therefore said to Him, ‘Are You a king then?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.’”
Matthew 26:63–64
“But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, ‘I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.’”
After the resurrection He still named Himself
Revelation 1:17–18
“And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, ‘Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.’”
Revelation 22:13, 16
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”Taken together, Jesus did not leave the question vague. He said He is the I AM, one with the Father, the Messiah, the Son of God, the way to the Father, and the coming Judge.
Thank You Jesus for being our savior, healer, redeemer, the one who lifts our head and gives us hope. Amen
