Corinth and the Modern Church: A Call to Return to the Cross

In this message from 1st Corinthians, Pastor Michael Stephens cautions that the contemporary church faces the risk of mirroring the culture rather than Christ, akin to the church in Corinth. Characterized by division, pride, and a tolerance for sin, Corinth serves as a stark reflection of many contemporary church issues. Paul’s solution, both then and now, lies in a return to the core message of the gospel: Christ and His crucifixion. The cross confronts pride, compels believers to holiness and unity, and reminds the church to maintain its distinctiveness from the culture while simultaneously directing the world’s attention to Christ.
